Swimming lessons are held every day, from Mondays to Thursdays, between 8:20 and 10:30 am. Each lesson lasts 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the level. Registration is required.(Parents & Tots: 5 to 24 months of age and their parents. A fun introduction for the very little ones to the pool environment and to swimming lessons, but most of all it is a fun time to have with mom and/or dad!)BDAC uses The Olympic Way Inc. teaching program. There are 8 swimming levels in this program, ranging from beginner to accomplished swimmer. A child must master every skill at each level before progression to the next level.Here are the levels and their criteria:White (2 – 7 years old)Jump from the side of the pool with the bubble (dorsal floatation device) on, unassisted.Swim 12 meters with the bubble on, forward swimming arms with directional control.Blow bubbles in the water while swimming with the bubble on.Swim 2 meters unassisted (no jump), face in the water.Back float with head assistance.Yellow (3 – 7 years old)Jump in, unassisted.Demonstrate a front and a back glide – push off the wall, body at the surface.Swim 12 meters unassisted with no bubble, face in the water.Front float and back float, unassisted (5 seconds).Green (4 – 11 years old)Push off wall streamline with kick for 6 meters.Swim front crawl for 12 meters with face in the water and arms out, begin breathing to the side.Endurance swim for 24 meters continuously.Backstroke kick for 12 meters with the head back and the body in a horizontal position.Rolling floats (front to back, back to front).Retrieve an item from the bottom of the pool (shallow end).Red (5 – 15 years old)Submerged push off into a streamline kick.Front crawl swim for 25 meters with breathing to the side, full arm extension and finished pull.Backstroke kick for 25 meters with a horizontal body position, feet break the surface of the water.Backstroke swim for 12 meters with a flat body position, straight arm recovery.Blue (6 – 16 years old)Push off the wall in a streamline position on the back.Front crawl swim for 50 meters with bilateral breathing.Backstroke swim for 25 meters continuous with alternating arms.Breastroke kick for 25 meters with proper turnout of feet and a forward propulsion.Bronze (7 – 16 years old)Front crawl swim for 50 meters with a proper catch, pull and finish.Backstroke swim for 50 meters with a shoulder roll and a steady kick.Breastroke swim for 50 meters with a coordination of the pull-breathe-kick-glide.Introduction to starts.Silver (8 – 16 years old)Front crawl swim for 75 meters.Backstroke swim for 75 meters using an underwater arm action with catch-pull-finish.Breastroke swim for 75 meters using proper arm mechanics and timing.Butterfly kick for 50 meters with legs together and a full kick from the hips.Introduction to butterfly arms.Introduction to flip turns.Gold (9 – 16 years old)Front crawl swim for 100 meters.Backstroke swim for 100 meters.Breastroke swim for 100 meters.Butterfly swim for 50 meters with proper arm mechanics and timing.
