Moonlight Natural Pet Store

To us, our dog Shinji was a family member. We fell in love him and our every waking moment was about giving him the best food and keeping him healthy and happy. That included not leaving him at home alone for long periods of time so we could work or go hang out with friends.

When Shinji came home with us, he came with a starter bag of “puppy food” kibble, which we now know included inferior ingredients such as poultry by-products and corn gluten meal. Like most first-time dog parents, we trusted that all pet food would be made with the best quality ingredients and didn’t ask questions.

Shinji started becoming itchy around this time and we researched and chose several premium brands of grain-free dry dog food, since we believe in good nutrition in our lives so why not the same for our new family member. A year or so later, with this premium brand of dog food, Shinji was excessively chewing and licking different parts of his body.

We went to our vet but felt like our veterinary care was more transactional than helpful. We changed to a holistic vet and months of testing followed as we sought ways of mitigating what we found out were allergies.

We switched him to raw dog food and combined with desensitization shots stabilized his allergies. Ever since Shinji started eating quality raw food for dogs, we noticed that his coat was shinier, teeth cleaner, and he had less body odour. His environmental allergies are still a matter of constant work.

Quitting our jobs, we moved to Vancouver so he could have more outdoor time. When we opened Moonlight as another extension of spending time with him and him making new friends, we brought all the knowledge, experience and research we did to the store. Working with holistic vets and a clinical pet nutritionist, we decided to carry a large selection of the best in all-natural, high quality raw pet food at our pet store.

Moonlight Natural Pet Store was born out of our desire to put our family members (our and your pet) first! Not special interests and not affected by marketing but rather driven by unbiaised research.

He had a blast each day and made tons of doggy and cat friends.

He passed away from cancer much too early for our liking. Despite regular examinations and tests, his cancer was undetected till 5 days before his passing. He passed away at home surrounded by all of us. To say he changed our lives would be an understatement. We miss our doggy son Shinji everyday!
